Though the Audi Q5 and BMW X3 and their respective sporting variants beat it to market, the Macan's balance of performance and driver involvement set a new standard. It's powered by either a 261-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine in the base model or the 375-hp twin-turbo 2.9-liter V-6 in the Macan S. The chassis does its part, serving up confidence-inspiring handling, braking, and direct steering worthy of the Porsche name. By blending sports-sedan driving dynamics with a dose of SUV practicality, the Macan earned its spot on our 10Best Trucks list for 2025. As one of our favorites in its segment, it also earned a spot on our Editors' Choice list for 2025. The Macan really comes alive with the twin-turbo 2.9-liter V-6powered S model. Quickness is important in a crossover with sporting intentions, but we wouldn't be nearly as impressed with the Macan if it weren't for its all-around competence on the road. It feels remarkably like a sports sedan, and the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic delivers rapid shifts worthy of the chassis and turbocharged engines. The ride is wonderfully damped and carefully controlled..At our test track, the turbo four-cylinder Macan bounds to 60 mph in just 5.0 seconds. The Macan S is significantly quicker, hitting the 60-mph mark in just 3.8 seconds, trailing the more powerful GTS by only 0.3 seconds; it leaves both the Audi SQ5 and the Jaguar F-Pace S behind as well. An SUV probably doesn't need to launch off the line as quickly as the Macan does, but we sure appreciate it.
